The Truth About The Chidambaram Dikshitars

By Sandhya Ravishankar

The Chidambaram Nataraja temple administrators, the Dikshitars, a micro community of 1500 people, are the traditional administrators and priests of the ancient Natarajar temple.

However, they have been forced to fight for their rights as the Tamil Nadu state government continually attempts to take over the temple after dislodging the Dikshitars.

The latest allegation against them is that they indulged in child marriage. Governor TN Ravi alleged that the banned two-finger test had been done on two out of three minor girls who were taken to the police station. The Tamil Nadu government has denied the same.

In this interview G Chandrasekhar, legal counsel for the Dikshitars elaborated on the issues surrounding the community and about how their fight continues.
